The Shape of Freedom is the largest exhibition of post-war US/European abstract art ever shown in Norway. In this art talk, Daniel Zamani (Curator, Museum Barberini, Potsdam) will discuss the exhibition with Christin Fonn Tømte (concept developer, MUNCH). You will hear about the main themes – including war, trauma, emigration, radical innovations in painting, the push towards abstraction and a new spirit of freedom – as well as some of the challenges of staging such an exhibition. Zamani was responsible for the exhibition’s original version in Potsdam.

The Shape of Freedom includes more than 50 artists including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, Barnett Newman, Helen Frankenthaler, COBRA, Georges Mathieu and more.

Daniel Zamani is curator at Museum Barberini, Potsdam. He was previously Assistant Curator of Modern Art at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt. He has a PhD in History of Art from the University of Cambridge. His areas of interest include medieval art, French impressionism/post-impressionism and the surrealist movement.

Christin Fonn Tømte is concept developer with the MUNCH mediation department. She studied Art History at the University of Oslo, and has worked in mediation at the National Museum and Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, among others. At MUNCH she develops new exhibitions with a particular interest in interactivity and accessibility.
