There’s a story from Edvard Munch's childhood that tells how he once took a piece of coal and made a huge drawing across the freshly scrubbed kitchen floor.
Instead of scolding him, his aunt called in Edvard's father so that he could admire the beautiful drawing.
Inspired by the freedom Munch was granted as a child, we invite children to express themselves on large pieces of quality paper, using charcoal and watercolours.
We’ll start the workshop by looking at Munch's huge pictures in the Edvard Munch Monumental exhibition.
In the workshop, the children can explore different ways of using drawing tools. They’ll experience the different sensations of making heavy marks and drawing with a lighter touch. Together we’ll look at how near-transparent layers of colour can create volume and depth on the paper. The children get to express different moods and emotions through their use of various tools and techniques.
