Carstensens cinematic, melodic 2021 album Musical Sanatorium is a hybrid of Western European film and art music, united with Balkan rhythms. The ensemble consists of strings, bassoon, clay cuckoo, pedal steel guitar, harp, choir, guitars, rhythm section, analogue synths, organs and horns. The music is dramatic and magnificent with instrumental combinations that have never been heard before.
