Extra! Not yet – Bendik Giske Performance
Photo: Alberto Rodriguez
Artist talk with Bendik Giske at 18.00 in the amphitheatre in the lobby before the performance.
The title references queerness as something glimpsed on the horizon that belongs to everyone. Giske’s performance takes up the significance of community in the face of collective challenges and presents a suggestion for how this can be experienced today. With José Esteban Muñoz’s seminal text Cruising Utopia as a backdrop, Not Yet features Giske’s characteristic tenor saxophone and is a bodily, spatial and tonal experience, created in collaboration with sound artist Bridget Ferrill.
The event has an 18 year age limit.
Bendik Giske is an artist and saxophonist who blurs the boundaries between performance, installation and music. Using circular breathing, he explores the limits of the instrument and the body, creating a physical experience suffused with a sense of endurance and human vulnerability. Giskes practice encompasses performance, installation, film production and record releases. His work has been shown at art institutions such as MoMA in New York, the Venice Biennale and Lafayette Anticipations, and he regularly performs at music festivals worldwide.
The commissioned work is supported by the Norwegian Cultural Council, the Fund for Performing Artists, the Fund for Sound and Vision and the City of Oslo.
