Composer and violinist Harpreet Bansal has achieved huge international recognition for her singlehanded reinvention of the raga tradition. When she studied Indian music at the Music Academy in Oslo – the first ever to do so – she quickly made contact with the capital’s switched-on, youthful jazz and folk scene. She has played in Bugge Wesseltoft’s New Conception of Jazz and released her own music on the Jazzland label.

Her music contains widescreen, meditative landscapes, virtuoso playfulness and spontaneous improvisations played with precision. The combination of her Indian musical and family background, with growing up in Norway, has led to a highly personal approach to India’s musical heritage. Tonight’s concert features Bansal in a trio with Andreas Bratlie (percussion) and Vojtech Prochazka (piano) plus the Cikada string quartet. A perfect marriage of tradition and modernity.

PÅ! is all about the sounds of today. It’s a regular series of concerts and happenings highlighting the work of contemporary composers and performers. The series features the best musicians and ensembles playing music from a mix of well known composers and newcomers.
