Sanskriti Shrestha is one of Norway’s most promising and innovative song musicians. Originally from Nepal, the percussionist has mastered the tabla and incorporated this Indian percussion, with its long and respected history, into some of today’s most forward looking jazz and improvised music contexts.
For this special Ultima at MUNCH commission, she has put together a multicultural, international ensemble featuring top Nordic improvisors Arve Henriksen, Bendik Baksaas and Andreas Wildhagen, classical violinist Harpreet Bansal, as well as musicians from Nepal, USA, Britain and Japan. The piece incorporates vivid field recordings from environments in Nepal made by Rajan Shrestha.
This concert promises intense atmosphere, ravishing instrumental textures and dreamy immersion in a world of sound.
