Pilvi Takala

Admirer (2019)

This piece lays bare the artist’s correspondence with an anonymous net troll who once threatened to torpedo Takala’s artistic career in blatantly misogynistic terms. Takala’s unusual response involved entering into a dialogue with the troll and setting out a list of rules and objectives for their communication, and the resulting video installation shows both of their responses to each other. It also comments on anonymity, artistic ethics and how to handle harassment that is not prosecutable.

Pilvi Takala (b. 1981, Finland, based in Berlin, Germany / Helsinki, Finland) works with video and performance. Takala’s video works are based on rigorous research where she deep dives into closed communities and individuals looking at specific rules and truths relating to human behaviour.
