Musti: Day in the Life
In the exhibition Call Me by My Name, Musti makes a personal interpretation of one of the artworks. Here you can get to know the rapper from Tøyen better.
20-year-old, award-winning rapper Musti gives us a glimpse of her studio sessions while talking about what influences her. Born in Somaliland and raised in Oslo’s borough of Tøyen, she emphasises her cultural background and experiences as the basis for her powerful lyrics and captivating musical creations. She is often mentioned as one of the most exciting young voices in Norwegian music and has been applauded for speaking up against the stigma of Tøyen.
In connection with the exhibition Call me By My Name, we dive into the creative processes of the artist Musti, author Guro Sibeko and visual artist Ahmed Umar. Here they share their personal stories about ethnicity, gender, identity and belonging, and show us how these stories inform their artistic practice.
In the exhibition, each of the artists is invited to present their interpretation of Edvard Munch's painting Cleopatra and the Slave.
You can experience Musti's interpretation here and at the museum at Tøyen.
